Forward thinkers believe we will experience more discoveries in the next 20 years than we did during the last 200. In The Singularity is Near, author Ray Kurzweil explains how the future will change the way we live, work, and perceive our world. The following describes some advances we can expect in the 2020s:
Computers and TVs will merge. The computer, keyboard, and mouse are gone. Information from the net, along with 3D-TV programs, movies, and holograms are all accessed by a system that reads our voice and gestures, and then displays images on walls, cell phones, or directly onto our eyes without using a screen.

Are you still crazy about having long cars like Mercedes or BMW? This new car designer has introduced a car design that can save a lot of energy that is required to keep a car moving. According to the designer, it is a futuristic car for the year 2020. It is based on segway transport technology which is a complete solution for traffic as well as contamination problems. The car is powered by 4 electric motors i.e. two in each wheel and it also has batteries for keeping the energy. Car is really very small in size and runs on 2 wheels only with a seating arrangement for one person. If you are the only one to travel daily then why to purchase a family car, go for this one.

Moonstream is all about exploring the Moon in an adventurous way. NASA Moonstream concept is a proposal designed by Anthony Sims, a student of Art Center College of Design. This is a heavily vehicle inspired by nature like the defensive shell of a tortoise. The wheels have the capability to move slowly like an insect and are completely adjustable for height and track. From inside, the vehicle is styled to offer a comfortable living space with latest communication technologies. NASA Moonstream concept is the ultimate luxury space lounge which will be completed by year 2020.

The dream of "invisibility cloaks" is at last becoming possible, and although the process will likely take another decade or two, steps have already been made in that direction. A group of graduate students at Duke University are already working on developing metamaterials-a special kind of material that causes light to bend in unusual ways, following the contours of the material's structure, and come back out the same way it went in. Provided that this technology is feasible, preliminary trials will be performed by the end of the decade, and the first economical cloak to be put into use (for hiding obstrusive structures from the riverfront areas) will be constructed before 2020.

[edit] 200 Futures for 2050
A list compiled in September 1994 by BT futurology unit.
Twenty-five years ago there were no personal computers, laptop machines, liquid crystal displays, digital wrist watches or pocket calculators. Most households didn't have a telephone or a colour television set and tape recorders still used open reels. Washing machines, cars and other domestic appliances contained no intelligence and there were no camcorders or VHS players. However, man had been to the moon and the space race, plus the cold war, had promoted the creation of integrated circuit technology. Since that time, our electronic based industries and society have seen a doubling in capability every one or two years across a broad range of technologies.
The listing that follows therefore represents the combined wisdom and guesses of a multitude of organisations and people. We have also taken the insights and projections of our own team to temper and shape the listing of two hundred technologies we predict to be key features of our society and individual lives by the year 2020.
Our purpose in compiling this list was to create a concise and, hopefully, visionary document that condenses a wide range of views from a large number of organisations.

2010: Computers become invisible.
2020: $1,000 buys a computer working at 10 quadrillion, or 10^16, calculations per second.
2025: Computer are able to simulate the entire human brain.
2030: Nonbiological intelligence matches human intelligence in range and subtlety; $1,000 buys a computer 1,000 times more powerful than the human brain.
